So I am about to embark on a new adventure of an "ultra" kind - ultracurling. Now, I have done a bit of ultrarunning and more recently timed ultra races. I have not ever participated in an ultra curling event. That is about to change.
Mayfield Curling Club, of which I am a member, turns 50 this curling season. One of the events dreamed up to celebrate the anniversary is to hold a "50 hours of curling" event. This LONG curling party starts at 6:00PM on Friday, February 1st, and will finish at 8:00PM on Sunday, February 3rd. Due to other commitments, I am at this point planning to curl from 10:00PM on Friday to 10:AM on Saturday..... then start up again Saturday afternoon at 4:45 PM until 11:00 AM on Sunday.... then I have a "regular" curling game in Sunday at 6:30PM to 8:00PM to finish up the event.
Not having done this before, I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep to my plan. This seems more difficult than "merely" running for 50 hours. The ice is hard, like concrete. You don't want to fall asleep, stumble and hit your head on the ice. Bad move!
When its over, though, I'll be able to say whether I prefer ultrarunning or ultracurling!
